Communiteen Courses

Communiteen stimulates you intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and socially. You can share your questions and concerns in an open, welcoming atmosphere with peers from all Jewish backgrounds. Some people will have shared your experiences; others have not. Together you, through the lens of your Jewish heritage, will work towards a greater understanding of where you came from and your place in the world today.

The Big Ideas of Being Jewish:
Finding the Jewish Sources for a Meaningful Approach to Your Life
This course encourages you to develop a personal Jewish philosophy and apply Jewish values and ethics to real life decision making. You will explore topics such as: the worth of human life, ethics and free will, the meaning of evil, and teen issues of money, sex, and family.

American Jewish Experience:
Finding the Roots of Your Place in Jewish History
This course helps you identify with the American Jewish experience as your own story and understand your place as a Jew in the United States.

Why Israel?
Developing a Personal Connection to Israel
This course will help you develop a personal connection to Israel and will explore the significance of Israel to American Jewish teens through the exploration of Israeli culture, geography, Zionism, and the political conflicts that shape the modern State of Israel.

Communiteen Partner:
The Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago is the sponsoring organization for the Florence Melton Communiteen High School and partners with consortium congregations.

How Much?
The cost of Communiteen is $500 for students from consortium congregations. If you are from a non-consortium congregation or are unaffiliated, the cost of Communiteen is $650.
